Part One - Becoming A Tweeter
It is important to understand "Twitter lingo" to get the most from your Twitter account. Here are a few key definitions:
@name - Addresses a tweet to a specific user or mentions them in a message (ex. @GetStarPower)
Tweet – A message sent or received on Twitter
DM – Direct Message . Type DM @name to send a Tweet directly to one user rather than all of your followers (ex. DM @GetStarPower
#word – Used to ‘tag’ a Tweet for tracking topics or events. Follow @hashtags to make sure your tags get aggregated. (ex. #TwitterTraining)
Webinar – A lecture, seminar, presentation or workshop that takes place online on a specific website.
Tweetup – a meeting or gathering at an offline location planned on Twitter (ex. @GetStarPower heading to Olive Garden at 4pm. See you there!)
RT – Re-Tweet. When you receive a tweet of interest and want to share it with your Twitter community, you can Retweet the message.
IMHO – In my humble opinion
BRB – Be right back
FB – Facebook
LOL – Laugh out loud
<3 – Text version of a heart on its side. Some people say “I less than three you” meaning “I love you”.
Twip – A Twitter tip
Follower – Someone who is following your tweets
Following – People whose tweets you are following
Un-follow - You always have the option of ‘un-following’ people on your list. It does not notify them that you are doing so – so no hard feelings. If they send a large quantity of useless messages, SPAM, inappropriate material or are direct competitors, you should certainly un-follow them and or ‘Block’ them from following you.
